Michael Smith

Sommelier, Osteria Mozza & Private Cellar Manager, The Cellar Manager
Raised in Templeton, California, Michael got his first taste of the wine industry quite early. He started with an internship at Robert Hall Winery in Paso Robles for the 2011 harvest, just after high school. Once completing his internship, he went on to work two more harvests in Templeton, just outside of the famed Paso Robles wine country.
After falling in love with how wine was made, he moved over to the service side of the industry. Michael worked at a 15 Degrees C Wine Shop & Bar in Templeton for 2 years, running their wine club.
When Michael realized he wanted to become a sommelier, he knew he needed a larger market than his hometown. So Michael moved to Los Angeles in 2016. In Los Angeles, Michael has been able to Somm the floors of the best restaurants and private clubs the city has to offer such as Faith & Flower, the Ponte by Chef Scott Conant, the Jonathan Club, and now currently at Osteria Mozza with Nancy Silverton.
Michael also does private cellar management with The Cellar Manager. Through this, Michael has gotten to work in some of LA’s most spectacular and extensive private cellars including some of Hollywood’s elite. From consulting to physical bottle placement in cellars Michael does it all!
Michael is currently working towards his Advanced Certification through the Court of Master Sommeliers, Americas. We’re very excited to have a palate like his on the team this year!
