Originally from Marin County, CA, Julien’s curiosity for mixology began at a very young age. He grew up in a strict vegetarian household and would often be in the kitchen with his father who was a chef. He was exposed to many different fruits, vegetables and combinations of flavors that helped him to quickly understand the balance in cocktails and the skill set behind cocktail creation.
His introduction into the bartending world was at age 19 in Amsterdam at the Chicago Social Club. When he returned to the US, he worked at Raven Bar in San Francisco, The Tasting Kitchen in Venice, CA and was the offered the position of opening Bar Director at Élephante in Santa Monica.
